After the Staff Parish Relations committee were asked by interim pastor Chris Blanchard to immediately begin the process for replacing him, it interviewed several candidates and, based on those conversations, the committee unanimously recommended Rev. Scott Bullock as the next Lead Pastor of Covenant. On Wednesday evening, the Covenant Church Council overwhelmingly approved the appointment. Rev. Bullock will begin his pastorate here on August 1st. Rev. Blanchard will preach his "last" message as the interim pastor on Sunday, August 6th
A Bit About Rev. Scott Bullock
Scott Bullock was born and raised in the New Orleans area and holds a B.A. in Music Theory from the University of New Orleans and both an M.Div. and an M.A. in Biblical Studies from Asbury Theological Seminary. Rev. Bullock was ordained in the United Methodist Church in 1988, serving churches in Kentucky and Louisiana, predominately in Acadiana, before leaving the UMC this summer. Some of his most memorable times in ministry include: serving at Patterson UMC before, during and after Hurricane Andrew; helping launch the Spiritwind contemporary service at Asbury UMC in Lafayette; re-organizing the childcare ministry at Fellowship UMC in Bossier City; being a ‘pastor-at-large’ in Iberia Parish, much of that in disaster response through the aftermath of several hurricanes, while serving First UMC of New Iberia for 17 years; helping lead a successful capital campaign and subsequent renovations that returned the congregation to two worship spaces at First UMC of Denham Springs.
His wife of 37 years, Paige, has been an elementary educator, school administrator and principal all while being a dynamic partner in ministry. She currently teaches kindergarten at Evangeline Elementary in North Lafayette. Scott and Paige are parents of four grown children and 3 grandchildren (with a fourth due January 2024!): Ben, an ER physician in New Orleans, and his wife Anne, an elementary teacher, are parents of Beau (2) and Griffin (1); Taylor and his wife Olivia work in the banking sector in Birmingham, AL and just welcomed Louise (1 month); Jared, a geologist with the federal government, and his wife Kayleigh, a teacher, live in Pass Christian, MS and are expecting a little girl in January; Abby lives in Baton Rouge, recently finished an MSW degree at LSU and does outpatient counseling for BR General Hospital.
Scott enjoys fishing, hunting & the outdoors, just about anything related to music or history, reading, and time spent with his family. His greatest unheralded accomplishments are: logging the equivalent of several lifetimes at his kids various sporting events, practices, and camps but enjoying every minute of it; keeping a family fleet of mostly decrepit vehicles in driving condition for umpteen years for four teenagers and two adults; never meeting a dilapidated old boat or guitar he wasn’t compelled to try to acquire and rehabilitate against all odds; and trying desperately to just keep up with Paige – who uses almost all of her ‘free time’ planning and coordinating family gatherings, cooking for those events and travelling just about anywhere, anytime, at a moment’s notice – especially to babysit!
Scott and Paige are excited about a new chapter of experiencing God’s amazing grace and His incredible future with long-time friends and new ones, too, as they serve the faith family of Covenant Methodist Church.
